THE DIOCESAN WOMEN ORGANIZATION

The Evo Diocesan Women organization is a major arm of the Diocese that handles ministry to the women and girls. It is made up of: Mother’s union, Women’s guild, Sister’s forum and Girl’s guild. Others are: Council of Knights’ Ladies (wives of the Knights), Widows and Wives of Traditional Rulers.

Brief on each of the above mentioned arms of the women organization.

The Mother’s Union: The Mother’s union is a worldwide Christian organization which promotes the wellbeing of families. It is especially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life. And its aim is the advancement of the Christian faith in the sphere of marriage and family life. In Nigeria, it is open only to women whose marriages have been solemnized in the church.

The Objectives include:

  1. To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.

  2. To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the church.

  3. To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.

  4. To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.

  5. To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

Women’s Guild: The women’s Guild (WG) was founded with a much more open membership. It is open to all women; wedded in the church, married according to traditional law and custom, married in court, widowed, single mothers, ladies of the knights, wives of traditional rulers. It serves as the umbrella group of the women.

The rules of the WG include:

  1. To read some verses of the Holy Scriptures and pray every day. To learn a verse from the Bible every week.

  2. To uphold the sanctity of marriage, and the upbringing of our children and servants in the right way, and to teach them to pray every morning and every night.

  3. To avoid being debtors or live corrupt lives, and to avoid drinking intoxicating wines or speaking filthy words.

  4. To attend Church services, Bible study and Guild meetings regularly.

  5. To endeavour to win people to Christ.

  6. To visit all sick people and those who are bereaved.

Sister’s Forum: The Sister’s Forum (SF) is an arm of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) made up of the female members. The Diocesan Women decided to adopt the SF members for the purpose of chatting a course for them for smooth passage into successful Christian Marriage and Motherhood. To this end, the Diocesan Women, in partnership with their parent body - the AYF, organize and sponsor the members to a good number of spiritually and intellectually enriching programs within and outside the Diocese, as well as workshops for

Skill Acquisition.

Girl’s Guild: The Girl’s Guild (GG) is an arm of the Diocesan Women’s ministry to the girls of about 5 – 18 years of age. It is a catch them young programme of the women aimed at training the younger girls in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), that is, the way of the LORD – in righteousness, unto adulthood: marriage and motherhood.

Moreover, the aim of the GG is to help the members to develop Christian attitude and character that would make them useful to God, themselves, their homes, the church and to society at large.

To achieve the above, lessons drawn from the Holy Scriptures and contemporary issues are taught them in their gatherings.

  1. Widows: These are a set of women whose husbands have died, made up of old and young widows. In the Widows’ fellowship, the peculiarity of their life situation is taken into consideration in ministering to them. Therefore as part of their programmes, lots of teachings from the Bible are done aimed at strengthening their hearts to cope with the challenges of widowhood. Also included are: welfare for the needy members as well as sponsorship/empowerment to assist those who need to be engaged in some trade.

  2. Council of Knights’ Ladies (wives of the Knights): The ladies Association is an arm of the Diocesan council of Knights, who are co-ordinated by the Women Organization also in partnership with the parent body. By this arrangement, the great potentials of the ladies are harnessed for service unto God and mankind.

  3. Wives of Traditional Rulers: The Diocesan Women Organization commenced, late in 2016 meeting with wives of the traditional rulers – aimed at encouraging and mobilizing them to position themselves like Queen Esther, in support of their husbands, promote the programme of God and of His kingdom in their areas of Jurisdiction.

STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING THE AIMS OF THESE DIFFERENT ARMS OF THE DIOCESAN WOMEN ORGANIZATION.

Regular meetings, seminars, conferences, trainings, workshops and such like are done where the word of God is taught (broken down) to the level of understanding of members of each of the groups. Teachings/trainings on contemporary issues, as well as workshops are carried out. In addition, outreaches where women are given opportunity to exercise their talents in the service of God and of mankind are carried out, such as: preaching, teaching, giving of gift items to the needy and fund raising for projects

We the women and girls of this Diocese sincerely hope that our efforts so far are acceptable to God and that He will empower us to launch out unto higher heights in our service of HIM and mankind.
