WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)
INTRODUCTORY REFLECTION (3)
TOPIC: God with Us in Every Situation
TEXT: Psalm 23:4
Introduction:
Psalm 23 is a personal testimony of King David's walk with God. Everything he talked about was borne out of experience. We know David as a man of war and a man who went through a lot in the hands of Saul, Goliath, the Philistines, the lion and the bear - even his own son Absalom. Yet he prevailed over all. What we have in this Psalm could be taken as the secret of his success in challenging times.
David literally walked "through the valley of the shadow of death." He met with the lion and the bear while taking care of his father's sheep; wandered in the wilderness while being chased about by Saul, and later Absalom. He had so many near-death experiences, yet God delivered him from them all. Thus he could speak with confidence: "I fear no evil, for thou art with me..."
Beloved, God is with us - not only through the good times, but even in situations we can describe as the valley of the shadow of death. We must trust in His abiding presence no matter the situation. He who is God of the mountain, is also God of the valley. No matter how things seem today, continue to trust Him. He will make a way where there seem to be no way.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I put my trust in your grace. In my "valley of the shadow of death" experience, may I see you by my side, in Jesus' name. Amen.
