Whenever men and women encountered God in the Scriptures, their lives were never the same again. His presence transformed them and moved them into willing service. This is the pattern of Immanuel—God with us. He does not draw near simply to comfort us; He also calls us to become channels of His grace to others.

Our Lord Jesus Christ perfectly demonstrated this truth. He declared, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). In God’s Kingdom, greatness is not measured by position, influence, or recognition, but by humble and sacrificial service. The Lord of glory chose the way of the servant, leaving an example for every believer to follow.

Serving God is not the responsibility of a select few. Every Christian has received gifts, opportunities, and abilities through which God intends to bless others. Whether we are serving in the church, caring for our families, carrying out our daily work, or helping a neighbour in need, every act of love offered in Christ’s name becomes an act of worship.

When we serve with the consciousness that God is with us, our motives change. We no longer seek applause or recognition from people. Instead, our desire is to please the Lord who sees all things. A teacher preparing lessons faithfully, a chorister attending rehearsals with commitment, an usher welcoming worshippers warmly, parents caring patiently for their children, or a believer visiting the elderly and the sick are all rendering sacred service when their work is done for Christ.

There will be times when faithful service appears unnoticed. Effort may go unrecognised, sacrifices may be overlooked, and words of appreciation may never come. Yet Hebrews 6:10 assures us that “God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love.” What others fail to see, God sees clearly. What others forget, God remembers. Every hidden sacrifice, every quiet act of kindness, and every labour performed for His glory is precious in His sight.

This truth invites each of us to examine our own lives. Are there gifts that have remained unused? Have we become reluctant to serve because we feel unappreciated? Or have we allowed the desire for recognition to replace the joy of serving Christ? The presence of Immanuel calls us back to joyful, wholehearted service that flows from gratitude rather than obligation.

When God’s people gladly serve one another, homes are strengthened, churches become healthier, and communities experience the love of Christ in practical ways. Let us, therefore, continue to serve faithfully, knowing that the Lord who walks with us is also working through us, and He will never forget our labour of love.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to show us the beauty of humble service. Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit and give me a willing heart to serve wherever You have placed me. Remove every trace of selfish ambition and every desire for human praise. Help me to use the gifts You have entrusted to me for the blessing of others and the glory of Your Name. Grant me joy, faithfulness, and endurance as I serve You each day, until Christ is glorified in my life. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
