DIOCESE OF EVO WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)
INTRODUCTORY REFLECTION (2)
TOPIC: The Promise of God’s Presence
TEXT: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” — Deuteronomy 31:8
Introduction:
Life often brings moments when the road ahead feels uncertain — moments when decisions loom, when our strength feels small, and when fear whispers that we are alone in our situation. In such moments, God does not first promise His children ease or success in their circumstances. He promises something greater: His presence.
Deuteronomy 31:8 was spoken to Israel at a turning point. Moses was about to leave. Joshua was about to lead. The future was unknown. Yet God assured them of three things. First, God goes before you. This means God is already present in tomorrow before you arrive there. You do not walk into the unknown alone. Second, God will be with you. His presence is not temporary or conditional; it is steady, faithful, and personal. Third, God will never leave you nor forsake you. Human support may fail. Leaders may change. Strength may fade. But God’s presence does not withdraw when life becomes hard. Because of this promise, God gives a command: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Fear loses its power when we know who walks with us.
This promise applies to every believer today. Whether you are facing exams, illness, ministry pressure, financial strain, or uncertainty about the future, God’s presence remains your anchor. God’s presence does not mean the absence of trouble; it means assurance in trouble. It gives us courage to move forward, even when answers are incomplete.
Conclusion:
The greatest gift God gives His people is not direction alone, but His abiding presence. Where God is, fear must bow.
Reflection:
What situation are you facing today that feels overwhelming? Pause and remind yourself: The Lord goes before me. He is with me. He will not leave me. Walk forward in that confidence.
May the Lord Journey with us this season & beyond in Jesus name. Amen
