SUB-THEME: CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
TOPIC: Say No to Internet Fraud (Yahoo)
TEXT: Ephesians 4:28
"Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." (Ephesians 4:28, KJV)
The use of online platforms to defraud people for one's own or another's financial benefit is known as internet fraud. Phishing emails, fake investment schemes, romance scams, and impersonating someone to steal money—what many in Nigeria refer to as "Yahoo Yahoo"—are typical examples.
Consider a student who dedicates hours to learning how to hack systems in order to steal and deceive rather than to build up. His abilities are for destructive purposes. Imagine now that a different student has developed apps that benefit their community utilising the same abilities. Both are talented, but one decides to change things - to make a difference.
Internet fraud, often seen as a shortcut to success, is a lie that ruins lives and dishonours God. It may bring quick money, but it destroys trust, dignity, and purpose.
To say no to internet fraud means using our hands, minds, and time for honest, meaningful work when we go online. God calls us not to cheat, but to contribute—to be known not for what we take, but for what we give.
Let us reject, and urge our youths to reject the culture of fraud and live in a way that reflects Christ’s truth and light. In doing so, we truly make a difference.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to choose honesty over gain, and use my gifts to build, not to destroy. Amen.
