TOPIC: The Power to Make a Difference: Personal Encounter

TEXT: 1 John 1:1-4

As we embark on our journey through 2025, our Diocesan theme "Making a Difference" obviously ignited a fire within us to utilise our unique gifts and talents to make a profound impact on the world. However, we must acknowledge that our ability to achieve this goal is inextricably linked to our personal relationship with God.

It is imperative that we recognise the pivotal role that a personal encounter with God plays in our quest to make a difference. This encounter is not merely a casual acquaintance but a deep and intimate connection with the Almighty. When we experience this transformative encounter, we receive the power and passion to change the world.

The apostle John's life-changing experience with Jesus serves as a compelling example of the impact of a personal encounter with God. John's relationship with Jesus was not merely intellectual; it was a heartfelt and personal connection that revolutionised his life.

When we have a genuine encounter with God through Christ Jesus, we receive a special kind of power. This power is not merely emotional or psychological; it is a real, supernatural power that emanates from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). This power enables us to accomplish feats that would be impossible on our own and make a difference in ways we never thought possible.

As we live with this power, our lives undergo a profound transformation. We become more loving, compassionate, and serving. Our focus shifts from self-centredness to a life of purpose and meaning, where we live for the benefit of others.

To make a tangible difference in the world, therefore, we must:

- Spend quality time with Jesus through prayer, reading the Bible, and cultivating an awareness of His presence.

- Share our personal experiences with others, inspiring them to embark on their own journey of transformation.

- Serve our community by demonstrating God's love and meeting the practical needs of those around us.

- Utilise our unique talents and gifts to create positive change and leave a lasting impact.

- Live with integrity and compassion, inspiring others to follow in our footsteps and creating a ripple effect of kindness and generosity that can transform the world.

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for revealing Your love to us through Jesus. Help us to deepen our knowledge of You and to share our experiences with others. Grant us the power to make a meaningful difference in the world. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
