WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: Immanuel: More Than a Name

TEXT: Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 13:8

A little child once feared the dark every night until his father chose to sit quietly beside him. The darkness did not disappear, but the child’s fear melted away because he was no longer alone. Presence changed everything. In a deeper and more powerful way, this is what God has done for humanity. He did not remain distant from our pain, confusion, and brokenness—He came near. Matthew 1:23 declares, “They shall call His name Immanuel,” meaning God with us. This is not just a name given to Jesus; it is the heart of the gospel. God stepped into our world, took on flesh, and walked among us so that we would never face life alone.

Even more comforting is the truth in Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” The same Jesus who walked the streets of Galilee, touched the sick, and comforted the weary is still present with us today. His nearness is not seasonal or occasional—it is constant and unchanging.

Immanuel reminds us that God is not far away during our struggles. In moments of fear, uncertainty, or waiting, He is right there—guiding, strengthening, and sustaining us. His presence does not always remove the storm, but it assures us that we are never alone in it.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being Immanuel, God with me. Help me to live each day conscious of Your presence and to trust You in every situation. Amen.
