SUB-THEME: CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
TOPIC: Say No To Sexual Perversion
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:18
“Shun immorality and sexual looseness; flee from impurity in thought, word, or deed. Any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (Amplified version).
Sexual perversion describes sexual desire or behaviour that deviates from what is considered socially, culturally, and spiritually acceptable. The Bible basically condemns sexual perversion.
Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor. 6:18), highlights the unique nature of sexual sin, contrasting it with other types of sins. He urged believers to shun or avoid all forms of sexual sin. This is because it is primarily harmful to the body and can take them away from God’s presence. Every other sin committed is done outside of the body, but the sin of immorality is against the body.
Some acts of sexual perversion include prostitution, adultery, paedophilia, homosexuality, lesbianism, incest, bestiality, etc. These sins can endanger one’s life as well as cripple him spiritually. It is important to state here that Paul did not exempt all other sin and mark sexual immorality as the worst of all sins, as some people may conclude. Rather, he is warning against the casual attitude towards sexual sin by many Christians in hyper-sexual cultures and society today.
As Christians, we must stand out and be serious with what we believe and preach as well as stand out for righteousness irrespective of where we find ourselves. Some persons may not be practicing sexual immorality, but they are not able to speak up against it. Sexual immorality can contribute to our deep pains. It should not be practiced in the Church—the body of Christ.
Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5:3 that it should not even be mentioned among believers. We are united to God through our union with Christ (1 Cor. 6:15); hence, what we do with our body matters and will tell how healthy our relationship with Him will be. Sexual perversion will not only harm our physical body, but it will also disunite us from Christ. Besides, our bodies were bought with a price, and so we must glorify God with them (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
We are called to a life of purity; we should be pure even in our sexual lives. Although we live in a decayed world where sexual immorality is on the increase, Christians should be disciplined and endeavour to change the narrative. We can make a great difference by cherishing our relationship with God, shunning all forms of immorality, and separating ourselves from every connection with the worldly behaviour that is contrary to the word of God.
Sexual perversion will endanger our spiritual life and may lead to the loss of important relationships, including our relationship with God and our spouses. It can bring about financial crises and lead to legal problems as well as cause sexually transmitted diseases and finally death. No matter how deep you may have gone into this, you can decide to make a turnaroundand ask God for mercy. He will surely pour out His mercy and grace for a fresh relationship with Him.
Remember acceptance by the majority does not make a wrong principle right! Would you like to join in changing the narrative?
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we are set free from all forms of sinful habits. May you help us to shun all forms of sins that do easily beset us and keep us far from you, so that we may radiate your light through our pure and sincere lifestyle—through Jesus Christ—Amen.
