SUB-THEME: Immanuel in the Community
TOPIC: Stronger Together Because God is With Us
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 4:9–12
God never designed His children to walk alone. From the beginning, He created us for relationships—first with Himself and then with one another. The Christian life is not a private journey that we undertake in isolation. It is a shared pilgrimage in which we encourage one another, bear one another’s burdens, and help one another remain faithful to the Lord.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 expresses this truth with remarkable simplicity: “Two are better than one... For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow.” Life has a way of testing every one of us. There are moments when strength gives way to weakness, courage yields to fear, and hope begins to fade. At such times, God often ministers to us through the loving support of another believer. The passage concludes by reminding us that “a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Relationships become stronger and more enduring when God Himself is at their centre. This is the very heart of our Diocesan theme for the year—Immanuel, God with us. His presence strengthens marriages, restores broken friendships, preserves families, and keeps His Church united even in difficult seasons.
This Scripture also calls each of us to examine our own contribution to the life of our family and church. Unity does not happen by chance. It grows wherever people choose to forgive instead of holding grudges, encourage instead of criticising, pray instead of complaining, and bear one another’s burdens without waiting to be asked. If there is a strained relationship in your life today, do not wait for the other person to make the first move. The presence of Immanuel gives you both the grace and the courage to pursue peace and reconciliation.
Our responsibility extends beyond our immediate circle of friends. Every congregation includes people whose struggles are hidden behind smiling faces. Some are lonely, some are grieving, and others are quietly battling discouragement. A simple visit, a phone call, a message of encouragement, or a sincere prayer may be exactly what God uses to strengthen a weary heart. The Church becomes healthy when every member accepts responsibility for the well-being of others, rather than expecting the clergy alone to meet every need.
As Christ remains at the centre of our homes, friendships, and congregations, His presence becomes visible through the way we love and care for one another. In this way, our lives bear witness that we are truly stronger together because God is with us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for dwelling among Your people and never leaving us to walk alone. Make me a builder of unity in my home, my church, and my community. Give me a forgiving heart, a compassionate spirit, and the grace to encourage and strengthen others. May my relationships reflect Your love, and may Your presence make us truly stronger together. Amen.
